The Fiera District

To the northeast of Bologna, just 2.5 km from the city centre, is Bologna's area of highrise towers as well as its centre for industrial and commercial fairs and exhibitions. For example, starting 31 March there will be the Bologna Children's Book Fair, with hundreds exhibitors from all around the world.

There is much startling architecture. But modernism is modernism, even in Bologna, where they do it with some style. There are a series of signature buildings designed by Japanese architect Kenzo Tange. But all in all we find it fairly soulless. We were disappointed to find that they had moved the Civic Modern Art Gallery downtown to the MAMBO (Museo degli Arti Moderne di Bologna).
