Verona-Trento-Bolzano trip

We don't often think of Italy as mountainous, but in fact much of it is. On March 31-April 4 we travelled north to Verona, Trento and Bolzano, going into the Alps-Dolomites (see itinerary above). We met up with our colleague John Chamard and his partner Ann Trecartin who were there for the Verona wine fair "Vinitaly." We met with people at the University of Verona (Sociology of Work) and the University of Trento (Institute for studies and the Development of Nonprofit Organisations). This post will deal with the Verona part of our trip.

Verona is well-known as the setting of Romeo and Juliet and therefore has lots more tourists than Bologna. Here are some highlights of Verona:
  • Roman arena (like the Colliseum in Rome) but much better-preserved
  • City of about 300,000 in the western part of Veneto province
  • Industries - tourism, wine, furniture
